I’ve lived in Arkansas for almost twenty years and only recently found out that the Natural State is home to a variety of wineries. A cluster of them can be found in NWA so we decided to go check them out!
We met up with our good friends, The Cole’s, and stayed in the cutest AirBnb! It’s the River Chase Whitetail Haven A-Frame. I’ve linked the website so you can see more photos, but it was the perfect place. The owners were kind and even left us the cutest note! The house was very clean, decorated well, and the hot tub was a major plus. We will definitely be coming back to stay here!
An extra bonus to this Airbnb: It’s located right next to a historic mansion that once belonged to Tony Alamo. Alamo was a religious cult leader who built the 13,064 square foot mansion and while he had many wives, this place is popular because it is where he kept the embalmed body of his wife while he waited for her to rise from the dead!! (SPOILER: She never did!) We texted the Airbnb owners to get permission and then walked over to check it out!! Don’t worry, we stayed outside and just peaked through the windows!
We were there during MLK Weekend & it just so happened that it snowed/sleeted. Therefore, some of the wineries we had planned on visiting were closed, but we did get the chance to visit 3!
Dionysus Wine & Brew LLC: The service here went the extra mile. They were having a slow day, so they allowed us to try multiple wines and even gave us cheese & crackers to enjoy between the tastings. The room for tastings fits no more than 8 people, but the small space allowed for great conversation. Also, if you’re looking to stay in a Yurt, they have one that they rent out!!
Chateau Aux Arc: The tasting includes your pick of 4 wines from a fairly large selection. This place was very cute and they even host weddings!
Wiederkehr Wine Cellars: This place is so much fun! I haven’t yet been to Germany, but I imagine it feels a lot like this! They have a gift shop, liquor store, wine tasting room, and restaurant! And if you’re looking for a fun event to attend, they host an Annual Wiederkehr Village Weinfest!
While Spanish wine is still my favorite, I’m proud of my home state for producing some good stuff!
